About
Hi, I'm Laura, though most people know me online as Tokig. The nickname came from a high school exchange in Sweden, where it means crazy, and it has stuck ever since. I'm an artist, a slow-living enthusiast, and someone who believes that the quiet moments we carve out of our days are anything but small.
The name A Moment Carved holds a few meanings close to my heart. There is the literal act: slowly carving an image from an eraser or block, getting lost in the process, and experiencing that very first print. There is also the idea of carving out time, for the people we love and for ourselves. Those small pauses are the first thing to slip when life gets busy.
I grew up in a small town in Canada, spent time in Sweden, and moved to New Jersey for love. Over the past five or six years I have been rediscovering my creativity, and carving came along and clicked in a way that felt like it had always belonged. I still love that I started with something as forgiving as an eraser, knowing that if something did not go right, it could simply go back to being an eraser. It was the perfect place to begin, and from there I have gradually worked my way toward larger pieces and new challenges.
A Moment Carved is for anyone who understands, or is beginning to understand, the value of pausing. You do not need a tidy creative practice or a particular background to belong here. The right way to spend a quiet moment is however fills your cup.
However you choose to pause, I'm glad you're here.

A Glimpse Inside the Studio
This is where I turn time on its side: a small studio at home, where my thoughts grow quiet, the world fades away, and a plain block slowly reveals an image piece by piece.
